With kids out of school, vacations and long, hot days, we tend to get off track to an anti-inflammatory lifestyle in the summer. To help you out, we came up with a few tips so you can move forward to a healthier you and still do what you love this season!
  1. Hydration is important during this time of the year so make it a habit. Start your day with a glass of water, always carry a water bottle and fill your diet with water-rich foods to get the water you need.
  2. In the summer you are out in the sun way more than other times of the year. To help protect yourself from skin damage and even skin cancer make sure you are always wearing sunscreen!
  3. Everyone loves to take their meals outside during the summer, but there are a few rules you need to follow. Make sure you transport food on ice, don’t let food sit out more than 2 hours, and toss the leftovers.
  4. Watermelon is a staple at picnics and summer backyard cookouts and it has amazing health benefits! Grab a slice of watermelon this summer to help protect against diabetes, hydrate yourself, and lower inflammation.
  5. When it’s hot outside ice cream sounds so good! This Banana Ice Cream is a delicious anti-inflammatory option!
  6. Summer is the time for family vacations! Even when traveling you can maintain an anti-inflammatory lifestyle. One way is to pack your own food when taking a road trip instead of stopping at fast food restaurants.
  7. Summertime produces lots and lots of berries. Blueberries, blackberries and strawberries are a go to when you are wanting a sweet, refreshing snack. They are also a good topper to make your ice cream less inflammatory.
  8. Food safety is important when eating outside in the summer. Food borne illnesses increase in warmer weather. Keep food safe during cookouts and camping trips by handling, preparing, and cooking it properly.
  9. One way to keep your cooler cold this summer is to try to pack your cooler 75% with food and 25% with ice, frozen drinks or ice packs. This will help allow cold air to flow more freely within the cooler.
  10. Take a hike with your friends or family this summer. Hiking is a great cardio workout and helps lower your risk of heart disease. Remember to stay hydrated!
  11. Enjoy the farmers markets in your area this summer! They will be filled with bright and colorful, anti-inflammatory options and it will be a fun day for your whole family!
  12. Tacos are a favorite grab and go meal in the summer. Reach for the corn tortillas instead of the flour for a more anti-inflammatory option.
