As we come to the end of October, we want to encourage you to continue celebrating National Breast Cancer Awareness Month throughout the year. Continue raising awareness of breast cancer risk, the importance and value of screening and early detection, and treatment options available to those who are diagnosed with breast cancer. Through screening and early detection, the risk of dying of breast cancer has dropped 38% since the 80s, but there is still a lot of work to do. According to the American Cancer Society, there are more than 3.1 million people with a history of breast cancer in the United States.

Some of the major risk factors of breast cancer include having a sedentary lifestyle, being overweight or obese, and having a family history of breast cancer. You cannot do much about having a family history of breast cancer, but you can change your sedentary lifestyle and work toward a normal weight. Two things to focus on to lower your risk are your diet and physical activity. Living an anti-inflammatory lifestyle is a great way to do this! An anti-inflammatory lifestyle includes a diet that is high is vegetables, herbs, spices and aromatics, and low in animal protein, saturated fats, sugar and processed foods. Physical activity is a must for an anti-inflammatory lifestyle, with recommendations of getting at least 30 minutes a day.
